Video Game Reviews of Wipeout PureCustomer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 StarsI played the first Wipeout that ever came on on the PS systems, I loved it then. I bought my PSP only about a week ago and I was surprised and excited to see Wipeout Pure, and instantly bought it without hesitation. It's pretty much the only game I play at the moment. The ability to download new tracks from online straight to the PSP is great. If you like racing games, better, futuristic racing games, this is a must buy. I only wish they'd come out with JetMoto for PSP.
Customer Review: WipEout: Pure Summary: 4 StarsWipeout Pure was a launch title for the PSP, but I didn't play it until just recently. This game is really unique and really fun. Here is my review.
Graphics: 9/10. The graphics really are pretty cool. The track design is nice, the explosions from the items look really sweet, but in a way, some tracks after awhile seem to look similar.
Sound: 8.5/10. Interesting music plays when you are racing, and it's hard to desribe; it's pretty cool though. The racers sound cool, and the weapons do too.
Control: 9/10. Only the skilled can play this game. It may be simple, but you have to use L and R triggers at the right time to do the turns effectively. This game takes practice to beat track times and not hit the walls.
Fun: 8.5/10. As far as I know so far, there are only 8 tracks, and quite a few racers to pick from, but overall, this game could last awhile. There are downloadable features on Infrastructure play, but not many people play this game online. This game is definitely worth a rental, but I really don't think you should take your money out and buy it. It's an interesting game, and a fun one, but the length leaves something to be desired.
8.4/10
Customer Review: Finally a game I can get into! Summary: 5 StarsI bought Wipeout Pure a few days back. Probably the best game I've seen in awhile (including consoles, folks). The graphics and music are perfectly used on the PSP. As for the gameplay itself, it's challenging, but still fun enough that you won't get frustrated. Think Gran Turismo with a higher learning curve basically. I love this game and if you happened to love the original Wipeout games or even the Jet Moto games (faves of mine) then you'll probably love Wipeout Pure. Just be willing to give the racing some time. Try some time trials and whatnot on the tracks to get accustomed to them.
Customer Review: Not what I was expecting... Summary: 3 StarsI'm sure most of us here had the original version for the PS1. 'Pure' lacks many things including actual control of your ship.
I've had the game for less than a week and maybe 3 playing hours and I already want to take it back. The only thing that seems to make the control better is to keep it in first-person view.
Don't run away yet and start dogging me on this. To me, it's just not living up to it's hype as "a must have".
Customer Review: purE plEasurE Summary: 5 StarsI bought a game in the Wipeout series for the PSX years ago. Its sense of speed was great, but it was too difficult for me (casual gamer) and I couldn't really get into it. Based on the reviews I read of this version, and since it was a gift and I had nothing much to lose, I thought I'd give it a shot.
Wow. I'm very happy with my choice. This game is to the PSP what a flashy DVD is to a home theatre: if you want to show off the hardware, the brilliant graphics and soundtrack, this is the game to get.
Besides that, it's wicked. It's a blast to play. They've managed to capture and convey a sense of blistering speed phenomenally. Aesthetically, it's a joy. The menus are slick and the in-game visuals are gorgeous.
So.. is it perfect? Err.. not quite. A wee note to casual gamers: While the game is easy to pick up and start playing, it's difficult to master. The challenge is a welcome one, but can get frustrating because the difference in difficulty between the first set of courses and the second is so great.
I know that only so much licensed music can be stuffed onto the little UMD, but still, the soundtrack (is brilliant but) gets kind of repetitive. Variety in tracks is lacking a little as well. It's a bit of a disappointment when one learns that in order to progress, one must be victorious in races that one has already.. err.. won, just at a higher level of difficulty. Myeh. Finally, unlockable goodies are rather anticlimactic. One gets nothing for a bronze or silver medal (well, except unlocking the next course/track to be raced) and upon winning gold, one unlocks... oh my goodness, artwork in the gallery! Double myeh.
In spite of the few shortcomings and nitpicks, wipEout purE is a worthwhile investment if you own a PSP and like racing games. I haven't spoken about the online racing aspect of the game because I've not had the opportunity to try it yet. No doubt that will greatly increase its replay value.
Finally, (free) downloadable extras from the developer add immense value to this purchase. The content can expire at any time, so be sure to grab it while you can. :)
