I dont have a PSP but I played this game at my friends house. The graphics are awesome like a PS2. There is lots of cars, and tracks. Also the career mode is really fun. Im going to get a PSP and this game. You should get this game if u have a PSP.Customer Review: Great Race Game

Great racing game, cant put it down. Only bad thing is the numb thumb I am getting from using the controler! Great graphics and excellent game play. Just when you think you have it down they throw another race type at you and you are working hard to get the win. On the higher levels it is not uncommon to win with just 100 yards to go. Also fun to run competition into a mountian side, luckly they dont seem to remember you from race to race :) Best game so far for PSP.Customer Review: If you buy one, buy this one

All I can say is "WOW"! Ridge Racer is by far the best game out of the 5 I own for my PSP. I own Wipeout Pure, and was somewhat happy with it after getting used to the controls, but as soon as I tried Ridge Racer it was all over. Wipeout Pure hasn't made it out of the case since. The headphones are a must with this game, the sound is incredible ... the music, the other cars zooming by, everything sounds amazing. If a car is sneaking up on your left side you hear him in the left ear so you can cut him off if you do it just right. This is the one game that has me seriously considering buying a PSP for my son - it's that good. When my friends ask to check out my PSP I always make sure Ridge Racer is in it because it never fails to impress. I could return 3 of my games and never miss them, but Ridge Racer and MLB are certainly worth the money. My kids love this game, I love it, my wife ... Currently, there are only 3 racing games available for PSP, and Ridge Racer is definitely the best of the three. You should be able to pick it up and learn the basic mechanics of the game fairly quickly. Most of the courses (of which there are many) are designed so that you are supposed to drift, rather than brake, through the turns. Drifting also builds up your nitrous so you can get boosts later on.
My only complaint is that the game gets pretty difficult. It seems that a cheap tactic was used to make the game more difficult. You see, it is fairly easy to drive the courses faster than all of the other racers. Unfortunately, this does not always mean you win. You will start out in last place out of 12 cars every single time. The lead car will start out with about a 20 second lead and you have three laps to catch up. So it's not like you can ever get a good start and jump into first place and just worry about holding onto the lead for the rest of the race. You are chasing another car almost the entire race. What gets frustrating is that you will often finish a few seconds behind the first place car and realize that you technically finished the race faster than he did, but you still lost the race.
I guess I learned to get over that annoying detail since the game itself was just incredible. Until Gran Turismo 4 comes out (and maybe even after, who knows?), this is the best racing game on the PSP.
